HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL : El Capitan Wins to Move into First

Share

Patrick McMillin pitched a four-hitter and walked only one batter to lead El Capitan to a 3-1 victory over Santana in a game that gave El Capitan (18-11, 6-4) sole possession of first place in the Grossmont 2-A League.

Santana (17-10-1, 6-5) fell to second as McMillin enticed 16 groundball outs.

The game was won not so much because McMillin had good control, but because Santana starter Doug Rheaume didn’t. Rheaume walked five of the first six batters and forced in two runs before being lifted with one out in the top of the first.

El Capitan’s third run came when McMillin and Dylan Smith opened the second with singles, and Mike Leone doubled.
