Dennis Amundson’s groundout drove in Nathan Lambie with the tie-breaking run in the top of the seventh as Southern California Christian defeated Liberty Christian, 5-4, in a Southern Section Small Schools Division first-round playoff game Friday at TeWinkle Park in Costa Mesa.
Liberty Christian (16-4) had tied the score in the bottom of the fifth, combining two errors, two walks and two hits for three runs.
Mike Hoggatt drove in two of the runs with a single and Gabe Baltodano scored the third on a two-error play.
Scott Williams (10-2) earned the victory, pitching a seven-hitter. Two of the four runs he allowed were unearned.
Amundson also drove in a run in the fifth inning with a single as the Flames improved to 14-5.
Southern California Christian will play host to Ojai Villanova Prep on Tuesday. Villanova was a 5-2 winner over Atascadero North County Christian.
In another game:
Calvary Chapel 8, St. Margaret’s 3--Sabe Younger had two hits and three runs batted in, and Greg Smith had two hits, two runs scored and one RBI for host Calvary Chapel (12-7). The Eagles play North Hollywood Oakwood in the second round Tuesday.
