SOUTHERN SECTION PLAYOFF ROUNDUP : Simi Valley’s Griffin Shuts Out Los Alamitos, 7-0

Sophomore Sara Griffin (15-1) recorded her 10th shutout of the season to lead host Simi Valley High to a 7-0 win over Los Alamitos in a Southern Section 5-A Division softball quarterfinal Thursday.

In the semifinals, the Pioneers (25-2) will meet Mater Dei, a 1-0 winner over Pacifica in 11 innings.

Sophomore Tracy Hansen keyed the offense for Simi Valley with a pair of runs batted in.

In other softball games:

La Palma Kennedy 2, Thousand Oaks 0--Nicole Paloney held the visiting Lancers to one hit and struck out eight in 5-A quarterfinal.

Lana Jimenez was three for three with two stolen bases and two runs for Kennedy.

Dani Burns singled in the sixth to become the lone baserunner for Thousand Oaks (20-5).

Foothill 2, Crescenta Valley 0--Foothill managed only three hits against Stacy Atwood (18-5), but that was enough to earn the Knights (24-7) a trip to the 4-A semifinals.

Crescenta Valley (20-5) had two hits.

La Reina 2, Paraclete 0 (12 innings)--Michelle St. Pierre struck out 18, and Jennifer Brant and Val Serpico both scored in the 12th inning to break a scoreless tie, lifting visiting La Reina (16-4) to victory in a 1-A quarterfinal.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Harvard-Westlake 14, Calabasas 4--Harvard (18-2) won eight of nine doubles matches to advance to the 2-A final Wednesday against Quartz Hill (23-0).

Josh Litter and Aaron Cohen won three doubles matches by a combined 18-4 score.

Quartz Hill 11, Righetti 7--The Rebels were led by doubles players Kenny Park and Charlie Stoll.
