Chaminade High, seeking a “change in direction,” told baseball Coach George Vranau that his contract will not be renewed next season.

Chaminade stumbled to a 4-22 record this spring and lost 21 games in a row during one stretch. The Eagles finished last in the Mission League at 1-11.

Vranau compiled a three-year record of 29-46-1. Chaminade, which competes at the Southern Section 5-A Division level, was 4-20 in league play the past two seasons.

“Basically, we just want a change of direction,” Chaminade Principal Tom Moran said. “There are a lot of different situations involved. We want all our programs to be as good as possible.”

Moran said he is taking applications for the position and that no deadline has been established.

Vranau, whose teaching position is not affected, could not be reached for comment.
