Bryans to Play for National Doubles Title

Twins Mike and Bob Bryan of Camarillo will face Geoff Abrams (Newport Beach) and Joey Gilbert (Fullerton) today in the boys’ age-14 division doubles final of the National Clay Court tennis championships at Fort Lauderdale Tennis Club in Florida.

The Bryans, who were eliminated in singles play Friday, are the defending doubles champions.

A group of former Conejo Valley baseball players will appear in the Arizona Summer Collegiate League all-star game tonight at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

David Skeels, Brian Sturges and Bryan Corey, 1991 graduates of Thousand Oaks High, will participate.

Skeels attends Arkansas, Sturges will play next spring at Cal State Sacramento and Corey will play at Pierce College.

Jeff Naster and Billy Hall, Thousand Oaks High products who played last spring at Moorpark College, also are playing in the league.

Four area high school baseball players who will participate in the 1992 Area Code Baseball Games also have been selected to compete for an American All-Star team that will travel to Seoul, Korea, Sept. 1-7.

John Aguilar of Hart High, Kevin Nykoluk of Simi Valley, David Lamb of Newbury Park and Brad Fullmer of Montclair Prep will participate in the Area Code games Aug. 13-16 in San Jose. The games will feature 200 of the top high school players in the United States.

The all-star team, composed of several players in the Area Code games, will play in the Goodwill Series VIII against national high school teams from Japan and Korea.

Aguilar, a senior shortstop last season and the Times’ All-Valley player of the year, batted .457 last season with a school-record nine home runs and 38 runs batted in.
