COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Hildebrand Wins Orange Empire Meet Individual Title

Sonja Hildebrand of Saddleback won the individual title and Irvine Valley won the team title in the women’s division of the Orange Empire Conference Cross-Country Festival Friday at Irvine Regional Park.

Hildebrand, a sophomore from Mission Viejo High School, won the five-kilometer race in 19 minutes 32 seconds. Irvine Valley’s Nancy Hunsaker was second in 20:01. Irvine Valley took team title with 24 points. Orange Coast (98) was second and Golden West (108) was third.

Alemayehu Jimma of Riverside won the four-mile men’s race in 19:54, and Riverside took the team title with 18 points. Fullerton (77) was second, and Orange Coast (94) was third.

In the Cuesta water polo tournament:

Golden West 12, San Diego Mesa 7--Freshman Ted Simpkins scored six goals for Golden West, the two-time defending state champion. Teammate Curt Bowman had three goals.

Golden West goalkeepers Giuliano Bertolucci and Brandon Douglas had seven and six saves, respectively. Golden West also beat College of the Sequoias, 20-1, Friday.

Orange Coast 11, Ventura 2--Richi Ruffin led the scoring for host Orange Coast with four goals. Teammate Rob Worthing had three goals. Paul Kruger had four saves for Ventura.

In nonconference men’s soccer:

Orange Coast 6, Palomar 0--Jon Muir scored three goals for visiting Orange Coast (2-1). Teammates Ali Mossadeghi, P.J. Polowski and Scott Goldman each had one goal.
