Oak Park 21, L.A. Baptist 7--Senior tailback Tarik Smith rushed for 225 yards and three touchdowns in only 11 carries to lead Oak Park (3-0) at Monroe High.
Smith, after missing last week’s game because he did not attend a class, rushed for 198 yards in the first half and scored on runs of 35, five and 87 yards. Smith also caught three passes for 28 yards.
Senior quarterback Damian Delfino connected on seven of nine passes, and junior fullback Mark Schwanauer ran for 33 yards in three carries.
For L.A. Baptist (2-1), junior fullback Jeff Fynington gained 94 yards in 15 carries. Junior quarterback Zack Hernandez connected with Jim Romero on a 30-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter to put the Knights ahead, 7-6.
Smith countered with two scoring runs in the second quarter. The second half was scoreless.
