El Modena Strikes Early, Often to Rout Ocean View

Four touchdowns in the first quarter helped El Modena defeat Ocean View, 49-7, Friday at Westminster High.

On the second play of the game, El Modena’s Mario Perez intercepted Kenny Miles at the Ocean View 18-yard line. Two plays later, Ernie Wilson scored his first of three touchdowns in the game on a four-yard run with 10:54 to play in the quarter.

Ocean View (0-3) returned the ensuing kickoff to its 39, then tied the score, 7-7, three plays later on Mike Coerper’s 30-yard run with 9:19 left in the first quarter.

Wilson scored his second touchdown when he returned the ensuing kick 89 yards with 9:05 left in the first quarter. Chris Alaux’s point-after pass was blocked by Jamal Hills, but El Modena took the lead, 13-7, and command of the game.

Later in the first quarter, Matt Mitchell (three of five passes for 71 yards) completed touchdown passes to Casey Shine from the 20 and Brian Hanson from the 35.

For El Modena (2-1), Wilson carried 11 times for 109 of its 238 yards. He scored his third touchdown on a two-yard run with 7:48 left in the second quarter. Sophomore quarterback Chris Goodwin scored on an eight-yard run with 11:17 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Fred Brown completed three of nine passes for 75 of its 108 passing yards for Ocean View.
