Arnold was a one-man wrecking crew as he led the Vikings to a 33-6 victory over Bell Gardens to push Downey’s record to 3-0. He scored four touchdowns, intercepted two passes and blocked his second punt in as many weeks. He returned one interception 75 yards for a touchdown and caught a pass off a fake punt for a 74-yard score. He also returned an interception for a touchdown in last week’s victory over Schurr. Coach Phil Dunaway praised Arnold’s work habits. “He spent a lot of time in the weight room over the summer preparing for this type of year,” Dunaway said.
Other top performers:
Rick Jones, Valley Christian running back, carried the ball 21 times for 118 yards and scored three touchdowns as the Crusaders defeated La Salle, 38-0, to improve their record to 3-0.
Jose Vazquez scored two touchdowns as he helped the Santa Fe Chiefs remain unbeaten at 3-0 with a 34-7 victory over Mayfair. Vazquez scored on touchdown runs of 58 and 21 yards as he piled up 181 rushing yards.
