ROUNDUP : Thousand Oaks Sweeps Aside 2 Foes

Thousand Oaks High junior Brandon Del Campo led a six-man sweep Thursday as the Lancers posted a pair of wins in a Marmonte League double-dual cross-country meet at Westlake High.

Del Campo timed 15 minutes 58 seconds over the three-mile course to lead Thousand Oaks (2-0, 2-0 in league competition) to a 15-47 win over Simi Valley and a 15-50 victory over Westlake.

Simi Valley defeated Westlake, 17-42.

Sophomore Jeff Fischer (16:33), senior Ryan Nugent (16:41), junior Chadd Aldrich (17:10) and sophomore Kevin Marsden (17:11) rounded out the scoring for Thousand Oaks, the No. 2-ranked team in Southern Section Division I.

In other boys’ cross-country meets:

Agoura 19, Camarillo 36--Senior Ryan Wilson led the Chargers to victory in their Marmonte League opener at Agoura High.

Wilson, the runner-up in last year’s state Division II championships, timed 16:09 over the three-mile course.

Senior Emanuel Azizi (16:16), sophomore John Greene (16:21) and freshman Adam Eyre (16:48) placed second, third and fourth, respectively, for Agoura.

GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Fillmore 23, Oak Park 64, La Reina 79, St. Bonaventure 87, Carpinteria 103--Senior Maribella Aparicio of Fillmore set a course record of 17:16 over the three-mile course at Fillmore High in the first of three Tri-Valley League meets this season.

Aparicio, who finished seventh in the Kinney national championships last year, won by more than three minutes. Her time would have placed her 10th in the boys’ varsity race.

Agoura 15, Camarillo 50--Junior Kay Nekota, the runner-up in last year’s state Division I championships, was sidelined with a strained calf muscle but Agoura still swept the first seven places in the Marmonte League meet at home.

Sophomore Amy Skieresz timed 19:27 over the three-mile course to lead the sweep by Agoura (1-0, 1-0), the top-ranked high school team in the nation.

Thousand Oaks 24, Simi Valley 32; Thousand Oaks 17, Westlake 43; Simi Valley 17, Westlake 44--A nagging foot injury forced Thousand Oaks’ Stacey Auer to drop out after a mile, but the Lancers still rolled to victory in the Marmonte League meet at Westlake High.

Freshmen Tara Marsden and Kim Mortensen placed first and second for the Lancers (2-0, 2-0) with times of 20:26 and 20:28, respectively, over the three-mile course.

WATER POLO

Royal 10, Brea-Olinda 7--Jack Kocur scored four goals to lead the Highlanders (10-1) to a first-round victory in the San Luis Obispo tournament.

Royal, which never trailed, held leads of 5-1 at halftime and 9-2 after three quarters. Royal goalie Ralph Radka made eight saves.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Royal d. Camarillo, 15-9, 15-7, 11-15, 15-6--Jill Enright had 17 kills and teammate Aimee Moon added 34 assists for host Royal in the Marmonte League match.

Kristen Fick had eight kills and five stuff blocks for Royal (4-2, 3-1), which is in a three-way tie for first with Agoura and Thousand Oaks in the league standings.

Thousand Oaks d. Westlake, 15-1, 15-8, 15-5--Tricia Tuley had nine kills to lead the host Lancers to victory in the Marmonte League match.

Gretchen Gulbranson had 29 assists and Jenny Mangels added six blocks for Thousand Oaks (6-4, 3-1), the No. 5 team in Southern Section Division I.

Agoura d. Simi Valley, 15-6, 15-10, 15-3--Jenny Pavley had nine kills to help Agoura (4-2, 3-1) beat host Simi Valley (1-3 in league) in a Marmonte League match.

Agoura’s Tracy Heflin added 19 assists and teammate Tammy Barrus had 11 assists.

El Camino Real d. Kennedy, 15-5, 15-6, 15-8--Jessica Dinaberg had 20 kills and Diane Sweet recorded 31 assists to lead the Conquistadores (3-1, 1-0) to victory in their Northwest Valley Conference opener.

Chatsworth d. Reseda, 15-1, 15-11, 15-8--Gigi Ghattas had 13 kills and Heather Mitchell recorded 32 assists to lead the Chancellors (3-1, 1-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference opener.

Harvard-Westlake d. St. Bernard, 15-5, 15-7, 17-15--Laura Wolf had eight kills and Lindsay Powers added 15 assists to help keep the Wolverines (4-2, 4-0) undefeated in Mission League play.
