LOS ANGELES : Plans to Hold Grammys at Forum Are Scrapped

Share

Plans to move the Grammy Awards show to the Forum, which were announced with great fanfare this year, have been scrapped, and the event will return to the smaller Shrine Auditorium on Feb. 24.

The move to the Forum was intended to allow attendance by the public. Participation in past Grammy shows has been limited largely to music industry insiders. The Forum was expected to hold about 12,000 people for the awards, about twice the capacity of the Shrine, where 11 of the last 15 Grammy shows had been held.

Both the 1991 and 1992 events had been held in New York’s Radio City Music Hall, and the Forum’s size had played a large part in luring the show back to Los Angeles. But some problems associated with last month’s MTV Video Music Awards at UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion made many in the music industry concerned that the larger venue would be inhospitable for the show.
