PREP ROUNDUP : Corona del Mar Tops El Toro in Tennis

Corona del Mar, ranked sixth in the Southern Section Division I, got strong play from its top singles player and doubles team and defeated No. 9 El Toro, 10-8, in a nonleague girls’ tennis match Monday in Newport Beach.

Marcie Asch swept in singles, 6-2, 6-3, 6-0, and the doubles team of Alicia Boice and Christie O’Meara won, 7-6, 6-4, 6-2, for the Sea Kings (10-1).

In the second round of the North Orange County water polo tournament:

Capistrano Valley 10, Coronado 7--Jake Yokota scored three goals for Capistrano Valley (15-1), the No. 2-ranked team in Orange County.

Dana Hills 8, Esperanza 7--Alan Herrmann scored five goals for Dana Hills. Eric Poole scored three goals for Esperanza (14-3), ranked fifth in the county.

El Toro 14, Montebello 3--Daniel Mathot scored five goals for El Toro (16-0), ranked No. 1 in the Southern Section Division I.

Marina 10, Santa Barbara 9--Eric Goodwin scored with 15 seconds left on a man-up situation to give Marina (13-3), ranked No. 2 in Division II, the victory over Santa Barbara, the top-ranked team in Division III.

Corona del Mar 15, Servite 6--Brian Codori scored six goals, and Brad Harrington had five for Corona del Mar (9-4), the fourth-ranked team in the county.

Newport Harbor 13, Fountain Valley 6--Brett McAllister scored five goals for Newport Harbor.
