Globetrotters Set to Appear in Moorpark

The Harlem Globetrotters will face the Washington Generals, their longtime foils, in an exhibition basketball game at Moorpark College on Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m. The game will benefit the school’s athletic program and Rebuild L.A., the organization leading the reconstruction of areas of Los Angeles impacted by last spring’s civil unrest.

The Thousand Oaks High girls’ volleyball team dropped from eighth to 17th in the most recent state coaches’ poll. Corona del Mar held on to the top spot after winning the National High School Championship tournament.

Royal and Westlake were the only other area schools to receive votes.

Todd Zeile, Bret Saberhagen, Barry Bonds and Danny Tartabull are among the celebrities expected to participate in a golf tournament sponsored by College of the Canyons on Nov. 2 at the Valencia Country Club.

A team of Russian sports acrobats, ranging in age from 13 to 33, is scheduled to perform at 7 p.m. Sunday at Granada Hills High.

The six-member trampolinist team won the world championship last month in New Zealand.

Sports acrobatics is similar to gymnastics, but the athletes compete in groups.

A golf tournament benefiting the Ventura College baseball team has been scheduled for Nov. 10 at the Buenaventura golf course.

The $75 per player fee includes tee prizes, golf, lunch and a cart. The tournament is a scramble format, with prizes for low-net and low-gross scores, closest to the pin and longest drive.

A bowling tournament benefiting Santa Paula High’s scholastic and athletic organizations is scheduled for Nov. 14 at the Santa Paula Bowling Center.

The tournament consists of a six-game scratch qualifying round followed by stepladder finals at 6 p.m.

A 5K run is scheduled for 8 a.m. Sunday at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Proceeds from the run will benefit the new hotel and restaurant management training program at College of the Canyons.
