ROUNDUP : Rossi, Barron Lift Valley Over Pierce in WSC Water Polo
Anthony Rossi and Steve Barron each had three goals Friday for Valley College as the Monarchs (17-7, 4-1 in Western State Conference play) turned away visiting Pierce, 10-5, in a water polo match.
Todd Simmons had two goals for Pierce, which has lost four of its five conference games.
Goalie Bill Palmatary made eight saves for Valley.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Moorpark 2, Santa Barbara 0--Rachel Gagliano and Heather Williams scored in the first half and goalkeeper Aimee Lyman made six saves for the host Raiders (8-4-5, 2-0-1) in a WSC match.
GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Saugus d. Burroughs, 15-13, 15-5, 15-9--Kezban Yagmur recorded 12 kills and Lindsey Estes 10 as the first-place Centurions (9-1, 7-1) swept a Foothill League match at Burroughs.
Sherman Oaks CES d. Westside Alternative, 15-4, 15-12, 15-1--Sherman Oaks (7-5, 4-5) won the Magnet League tournament with the victory over the regular-season champion.
Nancy Flores had nine kills and Anna Hererra 13 assists for Sherman Oaks, which had finished third during the regular season.
Highland Hall d. Hillcrest Christian, 15-13, 15-11, 2-15, 15-12--Robyn Moormeister had 13 kills for the Hawks (8-4, 4-1) in a Westside League match.
HIGH SCHOOL WATER POLO
Harvard-Westlake 29, Notre Dame 3--Todd Schumer had four goals and Ryan Salceda added three in leading the host Wolverines (22-2, 9-0), ranked third in Division I, to the Mission League victory.
Peter Kiefer had nine saves for Harvard-Westlake.
Royal 10, Thousand Oaks 3--Jeremy Pickles had three goals for the visiting Highlanders (19-1, 5-0), who won their 53rd consecutive Marmonte League match.
Agoura 19, Westlake 7--Terry Polapink had six goals and four assists for the Chargers (10-10, 5-5) in a Marmonte League match at Newbury Park High.
Dan Lemmon scored twice for Westlake.
HIGH SCHOOL CROSS-COUNTRY
Mt. San Antonio College Invitational--Chaminade High, led by freshmen Mary Higgins, Ashley Caro and Yvonne Goodson, placed third in the first Division 3 girls’ race.
Higgins placed fifth with a time of 19 minutes 49 seconds over the three-mile course to lead the Eagles to a 141-point total behind San Luis Obispo (119) and South Pasadena (137).
Nordhoff, the two-time defending state Division IV champion, was fifth with 161 points, and Fillmore finished seventh with 213.
Caro finished ninth in 20:24, and Goodson was 18th in 20:41 for Chaminade.
