PREP NOTES
Boisterous boosters: Ocean View’s football team is winless after seven games, but one would think the record was on the positive side after listening to its boisterous booster club members during a game.
The more than 100 boosters, headed by Randy Wersching, bring cowbells to every game and ring them loudly; they cheer enthusiastically after every offensive play--good, bad or indifferent--and for every defender who gets his name called over the public address system. They even have pizza parties for the players following games and throughout the week to show their support.
“We boosters have to do something to help keep the kids’ morale up,” said Wersching, father of kicker Mark Wersching.
Said Louann Coerper, vice president of the Ocean View boosters and mother of senior running back Mike Coerper: “Win, lose or draw, they’re still our kids, our team, and we still support them. The score of the game and the record does not show the heart of the kids’ play on the field.”
