Costa Mesa’s Steve Owen scored his second touchdown, on a six-yard run, followed by Kevin Shanklin’s second two-point conversion run to make it 28-16 with 4 minutes 57 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

But Trabuco Hills got a 57-yard scoring run from Barnes on the final play of the quarter to wrap things up. Michael Pawinski ran 13 yards to score a fourth-quarter touchdown for Costa Mesa.
