HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS : Peninsula Girls Advance in Singles, Doubles

It was a day for form and also a day for Palos Verdes Peninsula on Thursday at the Southern Section girls’ individual tennis championships at the Irvine Racquet Club.
The top four seeded players advanced to today’s semifinals in singles, including two players from Peninsula, the two-time Southern Section Division I team champions. Two Peninsula teams also remained alive in doubles.
Top-ranked Sandra De Silva of Pasadena Poly will face fourth-seeded Amanda Basica of Peninsula in one semifinal, and second-seeded Janet Lee of Peninsula meets third-seeded Pam Trump of Arcadia in the other bracket today at 9 a.m. All four players won two matches on Thursday.
The two top-seeded doubles teams also advanced with two victories. Amber Basica and Summer Redondo of Peninsula, the No. 1 seeded team, will meet Natalie Grubb and Dana Mazza of Santa Barbara San Marcos at 9 a.m., with second-seeded Amanda Augustus and Jennifer Cohen drawing Sarah Weigler and Kirsten Gross of Calabasas.
The winners in both singles and doubles will meet today for the championships.
