ROUNDUP : Bishop Montgomery Wins El Segundo Tournament

Bishop Montgomery rallied from a five-point deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat Mira Costa, 62-57, in the championship game of the El Segundo boys’ basketball tournament Friday night.

Trailing, 48-43, after three quarters, the Knights stepped up their defensive pressure in the final quarter and outscored Mira Costa, 19-9.

Bishop Montgomery improved to 3-0. Mira Costa, which lost last week to Morningside in the final of the Pacific Shores tournament, dropped to 6-2.

Forward Andre English led Bishop Montgomery with 18 points and was named the tournament’s most valuable player. Guard Jayson Sanders added 17 points.

Mira Costa center Frank Zeno led all scorers with 21 points.

Loyola Marymount 53, Wyoming 51--Jamie Jesko had 16 points and Nikki Rouillard added 11 as the Lion women won on the road.

Wyoming trailed, 52-51, and had a chance to win the game in the closing seconds. But the Cowboys missed a shot and Rouillard grabbed the rebound and was fouled. She made one free throw to help secure the victory.

Scarlett Gustin had 16 points for the Cowboys (2-3).

Loyola led, 28-13 at halftime. The Lions (2-1) are scheduled to play this afternoon at Colorado State, but the game may be postponed until Monday because of heavy snow in the area.

Dominguez Hills 78, Christ College-Irvine 48--Karen Bonde and Dionne Vanlandingham each had 19 points for the Toro women (3-3).
