GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Yamasaki’s Shooting Helps Los Alamitos Edge Cypress

Cindy Yamasaki made three consecutive free throws in the final minute to help Los Alamitos secure a 48-44 victory over Cypress in the quarterfinals of the Cypress girls’ basketball tournament Tuesday at Cypress High.

Yamasaki, who made eight of nine free throws, and Julie Marshall each scored 14 points for Los Alamitos (3-4). Jessica Eggleston scored 18 points for Cypress.

In other Cypress tournament quarterfinal games:

Huntington Beach 52, Fountain Valley 43--Clare Walker had 23 points and 14 rebounds and Deana Itow added 14 points for Huntington Beach (5-1), which opened the second quarter with a 19-0 run. Julie Murdent scored 16 points for Fountain Valley.

Kennedy 69, Edison 62--Erryn Gutjahr scored 15 points to lead Kennedy (4-1). Freshman Marie Philman scored all 20 of her points in the second half for Edison (4-2).

Marina 78, Savanna 47--Aimee Periolat scored 20 points and Shande Robbins had 14 points and 18 rebounds to lead Marina (2-2). Sara Works had 26 points and 12 rebounds for Savanna.

In the Bolsa Grande tournament:

South Torrance 36, Laguna Hills 34--Amy Feniello had 23 points for Laguna Hills (1-5).

San Clemente 64, West Torrance 44--Michelle MacIntyre had 27 points and five assists and Dana Netherby had 12 points and eight assists for San Clemente (4-2).

In the Estancia tournament:

Corona del Mar 51, Trabuco Hills 46--Rosalie Kane scored 22 points and Mollie Flint added 17 to lead Corona del Mar (4-1) to a semifinal victory.

In nonleague play:

Canyon 49, Fullerton 42--Sarah Spjut had 12 points and Rona Rathod added 11 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots for host Canyon (5-0).

Capistrano Valley Christian 69, Cerritos Whitney 18--Andie Shaffner had 18 points for Capistrano Valley Christian (5-1).

Century 45, La Mirada 25--Nina Alexander had 16 points and Ariana Moreno had 10 steals for visiting Century (4-4).

Cerritos 61, La Habra 38--Martha Hernandez had 17 points, six steals and five assists for host La Habra (2-4).

El Dorado 49, Rosary 37--Jody Caruso had 21 points and Angie Conley 15 points and six assists for host El Dorado (6-0).

Katella 47, Villa Park 22--Rachel Davis had 19 points and nine rebounds for host Katella (4-0).

Mater Dei 66, Santa Margarita 32--Leticia Oseguera had 13 points and 11 rebounds for visiting Mater Dei (4-1). Santa Margarita is 0-3.

Santa Ana 48, Sunny Hills 40--Cynthia Trotter had 16 points for host Santa Ana (6-1).
