OUTLOOK A year ago, Weddle had the luxury of coaching eight seniors. Now it’s time to pay the price. This year in the Academy League, the Minutemen’s starting lineup includes three freshmen, a sophomore and a senior. Guess what? Weddle is loving it. “I’m enjoying it,” Weddle said. “Sometimes seniors can be tough to coach, you know, with petty problems. This team wants to learn. They are excited about the prospects about how good they can be.” Offensively, Liberty Christian doesn’t exactly resemble Nevada Las Vegas. Currently, their top scorer, Tedisco, is averaging fewer than nine points. Weddle figures other scorers to be right behind her are Rendon and Vacarro. “Our offense is balanced. We don’t score a lot,” Weddle said. “But we win with defense. We run a man-to-man defense instead of a zone. We try to be in good condition to do that. So we have to play eight deep.” Weddle thinks it will take time before his young team jells, but when it does, look out. “It will be a major challenge for us to excel in league,” Weddle said. “By the second half of the season, we should be competitive with almost anybody. I’d like to think we can be competitive for second place in the league.”
