La Mirada, Whittier Players Lead Southeast All-Star List

Eleven schools are represented on The Times’ Southeast All-Star High School Football Team, led by CIF Southern Section Division VIII champion La Mirada with five players and Whitmont League champion Whittier with four. The team was chosen through a poll of coaches.

Wide receivers include Jim Hunter (La Serna) and Alex Khasaempanth (La Mirada).

Offensive linemen are Yong Chon (Downey), Scott Lopez (Whittier), Jim Hope (Santa Fe), Mike Cano (Glenn) and Ruben Guerrero (Norwalk).

Running backs Ryan Hura (La Mirada), Tobias Ibarra (Wittier) and Jarvis Watson (Warren) are on the team.

The quarterback is Mike Moschetti of La Mirada.

Defensive linemen are Jerry Lemon (La Mirada), Matt Nichols (Valley Christian), and Greg Ford and Aaron Volkoff (Whittier).

Linebackers are Junior Michel (La Mirada), Roy Reyes (Warren), Chris Wiley (El Rancho) and Tony Reza (Montebello).

Defensive backs are Michael Rothenberger (Downey) and Mark Kotsay and Abel Meraz (Santa Fe).

Johnny Macon of Downey, last year’s quarterback, was chosen as an all-purpose player.

The team members will be honored at a breakfast at 9 a.m. Jan. 17 at the Sheraton-Long Beach. Long Beach City College Coach Larry Reisbig, formerly of Cal State Long Beach, will be the guest speaker.

Awards for the best lineman, back and coach of the year will be announced at the breakfast.
