Katella Coach Tom Danley says Brian Carlson, a three-year starter and his team’s leading scorer, is the Knights’ cog, but Roditis showed last week that he can be more than merely another spoke. Roditis scored 14 of his career-high 28 points in Katella’s 54-52 victory over Seattle Shorecrest in the title game of the Katella Klassic Wednesday. Roditis, a 6-foot guard, is averaging about 18 points and shooting better than 50% from the floor. “He’s a good all-around player,” Danley said. ‘When he gets the hot hand, he can do quite a few things.” But Danley is just as impressed with how Roditis is developing the other parts of his game, such as defense, rebounding and passing. Such balance, Danley said, will help Katella (11-2) in the upcoming Empire League season.

Other top performers:

Eric Ambrozich, who was named the most valuable player of the Coast Christmas tournament after he had 14 points and 13 rebounds in Irvine’s 63-49 victory over Tustin in the title game.

Jeff Cummins, who was named the MVP of the Orange Holiday tournament after his 13 points and seven rebounds helped Kennedy defeat Marina, 37-36, for the title.
