The Peninsula High girls’ basketball team hung on for a 43-31 victory over host South Torrance in a nonleague game Wednesday night.

Mimi McKinney had 17 points and six rebounds for Peninsula (5-6), which was playing its first South Bay opponent and non-tournament game.

“It’s been a learning experience losing all these games,” McKinney said. “It was better to lose now than be heartbroken later. We played a little sloppy tonight, but we played the best we could.”
