HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Block Gives Glendale 62-60 Upset

Paul Chin and Hai Tran teamed up to block a potential tying shot with one second to play as Glendale High upset host Arcadia, 62-60, Friday night in a Pacific League opener.

Arcadia (14-3 overall) had a chance to tie, but Jeff Provenzano’s shot was blocked by Chin and Tran, who also led the offensive attack for Glendale (11-4).

Chin had a career-high 24 points on 10-of-11 shooting, including four of five from three-point range. Tran had 12 points, seven assists and six steals.

In other boys’ basketball games:

Santa Clara 68, Moorpark 54--Brian Clark had 22 points and Scott Carranza added 11 rebounds and a personal-high 20 points for host Santa Clara (12-5) in a Frontier League opener. Michah Hanson led Moorpark with 20 points.

Hueneme 71, Buena 65--Wendell Nunnery had 31 points and 10 rebounds, and David Andrade added 18 points and 11 rebounds for host Hueneme (7-4, 2-0) in a Channel League game. Adam Fairbanks had 14 points for Buena (1-10, 0-2).

North Hills Prep 91, Highland Hall 67--The Gators (6-2, 2-0) beat the short-handed Hawks (0-6, 0-2), who suited up only five players, in a Westside League game. Robert Knox finished with 28 points and Marquez Lewis had 26 for North Hills.

St. Francis 70, Bosco Tech 56--Forward Dave Craig scored 29 points, including four three-point shots, for St. Francis (7-7, 2-0) in a Del Rey League game.

Chaminade 57, Harvard-Westlake 50--Trevor Testwuide scored 14 points for visiting Chaminade (1-2 in league) in a Mission League game. Scott Garson led Harvard (4-10, 0-3) with 18 points.

Bell-Jeff 82, La Salle 57--Junior forward Dan Mancinelli scored a season-high 35 points, including five three-point shots, for host Bell-Jeff (5-8) in a Camino Real League opener.

L.A. Baptist 74, Fillmore 46--Landon Lapack scored a game-high 19 points and Zaki Rabadi added 15 to lead L.A. Baptist (7-5) in a nonleague game at Fillmore.

St. Genevieve 57, St. Monica 51--Ryan McGinnis scored 16 points to lead four St. Genevieve players in double figures in a Camino Real League opener.

Paraclete 73, Silver Valley 43--Paraclete (5-7, 2-0) was led by guards Sean O’Gara (16 points) and Brendan Carberry (14) in a High Desert League game.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Channel Islands 39, Simi Valley 29--Michelle Liufay and Dolores Tuimoloan each scored 11 points for Channel Islands in a Marmonte League game.

Crossroads 51, Campbell Hall 30--Sharisse Smith scored 25 points and Crossroads held host Campbell Hall to three fourth-quarter points in a Delphic League opener. Talar Sarkis led Campbell Hall (3-7) with 11 points.

Holy Martyrs 30, Marlborough 26--Aline Algibarmakian had 15 points and 10 rebounds for Holy Martyrs (6-5) in a nonleague game.

Nordhoff 55, Santa Paula 43--Forward Rachel McSorley scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds in a Frontier League opener at Nordhoff.

BOYS’ SOCCER

St. Francis 2, Bosco Tech 1 (2 OTs)--Moments after losing his footing and missing a clear shot on goal, St. Francis’ Tim Durkin had a clearing kick ricochet off his leg and into the goal two minutes into the second overtime as the Knights (8-1-1, 2-0) won a Del Rey League game.

Quartz Hill 2, Littlerock 2--John Stock scored the tying goal 10 minutes into the second half to give host Littlerock (5-7-1, 2-2-1) the tie in the Golden League match. Quartz Hill (9-0-1, 4-0-1) scored twice in the first 10 minutes.

Harvard-Westlake 3, Chaminade 0--Warren Davidoff scored a pair of goals and Jordan Elias added another for host Harvard-Westlake (8-0-1, 2-0) in a Mission League match.

Notre Dame 1, Alemany 0--Francisco Dongo’s first-half goal lifted host Notre Dame (7-5, 2-0) to the Mission League victory.

Simi Valley 2, Camarillo 1--Brian Lopez scored with five minutes left to lift the Pioneers (6-5-1) in a Marmonte League opener.
