Cal-Hi Sports this week released its first state basketball rankings since the preseason poll, and a boys’ team from the region is ranked in the top 10 in each of five state divisions. North Hollywood is ranked eighth in Division I; Crescenta Valley sixth in Division II; Notre Dame seventh in Division III; Santa Clara 10th in Division IV; and Montclair Prep eighth in Division V.

The region also has at least one top-10 team in four of five girls’ divisions, led by No. 1-ranked Thousand Oaks in Division I. Buena is fifth and Palmdale ninth in Division I.

Also, Ventura is ranked eighth in Division II, Alemany sixth in Division II and Nordhoff fifth in Division IV.

Wrestling: Seniors Justin Jackson of Ventura High (145 pounds) and Sean Burns of Agoura (171) both are 20-0 entering league meets.

Jackson, a Channel League champion last year who finished fifth in the Southern Section 3-A finals, was a champion in the Newbury Park, Torrance and West Coast Classic tournaments last month. Burns, a two-time defending Marmonte League champion, placed first at the Newbury Park, Schurr and Quartz Hill tournaments. . . .

Oxnard seniors Bobby Roman (125 pounds) and Mario Corona (171) were selected most valuable wrestlers of the lower- and upper-weight divisions after both placed first Saturday in the Gold Coast tournament at Camarillo High. . . .

Camarillo finished second to Westwood (Ariz.) High in the tournament. Camarillo seniors Donny Lynch (135) and Jason Cundiff (189) finished second. . . .

Seniors Ray Estrada (119) and Jerry Escoto (112) of Channel Islands placed first at Camarillo. Estrada (25-1) also placed first at the El Rancho and El Toro tournaments. Escoto is 19-1 and placed first at El Toro. . . . Jason Carmody (135) and Sean Burdick (heavyweight) of Ventura placed first at the Torrance and Newbury Park tournaments.
