Jody Anton, a Brea-Olinda graduate who recently finished her freshman year at USC, was named to the West women’s basketball team for the U.S. Olympic Festival this summer in San Antonio, her father, Phil Anton, said Tuesday.

Anton, Southern Section Division II player of the year in 1991 and Division III player of the year in ‘92, had been an alternate to the team. The Olympic Festival is July 23-Aug. 1.

Esperanza lineman Travis Kirschke and Los Alamitos quarterback Tim Carey were named co-players of the year at the Orange County All-Star football awards dinner, sponsored by the Orange County Sportswriters Assn. and the Brea Lions Club.

It was the first time in the seven years of the award that two players were simultaneously honored.

The North-South all-star football game will be July 9 at Orange Coast College

Diver Jennie Maxwell, a senior at Capistrano Valley, signed a letter of intent to attend Pepperdine.

Maxwell, a nationally ranked Junior Olympic and senior national 10-meter platform and springboard diver, finished fourth in this year’s Southern Section Division I diving championships. She is a member of the Crown Valley diving team in Laguna Niguel.
