Dean Yoshimura has been named boys’ basketball coach at Valencia, replacing John Cyrus, who resigned for personal reasons.

Yoshimura has coached the Valencia junior varsity to Orange League titles in two of the last three years, as well as coaching the girls’ and boys’ volleyball programs.

Because of his new duties with the basketball program, Yoshimura has resigned as girls’ volleyball coach. Mark Castillo replaced him.

The all-star game will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Brea-Olinda High School, 30 minutes before the rescheduled starting time of the Division III title game between Laguna Hills and Irvine at Lakewood’s Mayfair Park. That game, originally scheduled Saturday, was postponed because of rain.

Laguna Hills’ Jennifer Milo and Irvine’s Rebecca Smith and Alleah Poulson will miss the all-star game.

“It would be too chaotic (to change the date at this time),” said all-star game representative Cathy Green. “Unfortunately, the three girls will not be able to participate, but our responsibility is to take care of the entire group--it’s one of those majority-rules type of decisions.”
