Mary Star Baseball Player Selected to Division IV Team

Senior third baseman Chuck Ursini of Mary Star High in San Pedro has been named to the Southern Section Division IV baseball team for the second year in a row by the Amateur Athletic Foundation/First Interstate Bank board of athletics.

Ursini, a second-team selection, batted .419 (36 for 86) with 30 runs scored and led Mary Star with five home runs and 26 runs batted in. The Stars (17-8) won the Santa Fe League title and reached the second round of the Division IV playoffs.

Pitcher Mike Brown of division champion Yucaipa and infielder Brad Fullmer of Montclair Prep in Van Nuys were selected co-players of the year. Brown was 12-4 with a 1.90 earned-run average. Fullmer, drafted in the second round by the Montreal Expos, batted .568 with 15 home runs and 62 RBIs, a section record.
