LEGION ROUNDUP : Westlake-Royal to Play in Final of Tournament

Westlake-Royal defeated Reno, 12-2, Saturday to advance to the championship game of the Sierra Nevada Tournament in Reno.

Westlake-Royal, which has won two games in the championship bracket after going 1-2 in pool play, will meet San Mateo today 3:30 p.m. Bryan Fernandez and Brian Del Monte each had two hits for Westlake-Royal.

DISTRICT 20

Valley North 5, Sun Valley 4--Valley North rallied from a four-run deficit in an interdivision game at Poly High. Winning pitcher Rick Staves beat the throw to first base on a potential inning-ending double play, enabling the winning run to score. David Stevenson had three hits for Valley North (8-0).

Palmdale West 26, Glendale 21--The teams collected 54 hits and four home runs in an interdivision game at Highland High.

Ryan Golphenee, Tim Guzman and Denver Martinez each had five hits for Palmdale West (3-7). Doug Jackson of Glendale (5-4) had six hits, including a home run.

Woodland Hills East 2, Van Nuys West 0--Dusty Cook pitched a one-hitter, leading Woodland Hills East (7-1) to an interdivision victory. Cook, making his first start, had four strikeouts and no walks.

Woodland Hills West 13, North Hollywood 3--John Novak was five for five with two home runs, and Mike Smith was three for three with two home runs and six RBIs, leading Woodland Hills West (7-1) to an interdivision victory at Franklin Field.

Van Nuys South 9, San Fernando 8--Left fielder Marc Scorza threw out Danny Rodriguez at home, ending the interdivision game at San Fernando. Adam Frank had three hits and four RBIs for Van Nuys South (8-4). Danny Rodriguez and Angel Hernandez each had two hits for San Fernando (5-5).

Van Nuys East 5, Granada Hills West 4--Mike Smith pitched seven scoreless innings to win an interdivision game at Notre Dame. Glen Carson and Ed Romero homered for Van Nuys East (7-0).

Newbury Oaks 9, Oak Park 2--Jeff Hook allowed one run in six innings and hit a double as Newbury Oaks won at Thousand Oaks.
