Cypress Team Wins Junior Softball Title
Gordon’s Panthers of Cypress beat the Orange County Batbusters, 3-1, Sunday to win the Amateur Softball Assn. Junior Olympic girls’ 18-and-under national championship in Visalia.
The Panthers and Batbusters started the day as the only undefeated teams in the tournament. The Panthers beat the Batbusters, 3-0, in the winners’ bracket final earlier Sunday.
But Orange County then came back to beat the California Raiders, 10-3, to get into the title game.

Kellee Booth of Coto de Caza and Alicia Allison of Santa Ana remained tied for the lead at the Independent Insurance Agent Junior Classic at the Chanal Country Club in Little Rock, Ark.
Booth and Allison each have back-to-back 73s and are tied at 146 with two rounds left.
Chris Barry of Placentia shot a 67 after a 73 Saturday and made the cut. Jin Park of Fullerton shot a 80 after a 76 and failed to advance.

Brandon Stout of Lake Forest was selected the most valuable player as Southern California B team beat Central California, 10-6, for the water polo title in the California Games being held in Riverside.
Marco Avanzi of Lake Forest, Sam Grayeli of Costa Mesa, Eric Ploessel of Los Alamitos, and Matt Tilton of Lake Forest also made the all-tournament team.
