Members of the Women’s Professional Volleyball Assn. named Karolyn Kirby and Liz Masakayan as co-most valuable players for 1993.

Kirby, 32, was also named best setter and Masakayan, 28, was best hitter. Kirby and Masakayan teamed to win 12 of 13 events, including last week’s World Championships in Manhattan Beach.

Elaine Roque was voted best blocker and Barbra Fontana, a Mira Costa High grad, was best defensive player. Dennie Knoop of Redondo Beach received the sportswomanship award and Johanna Wright was rookie of the year.

The Loyola Marymount women’s volleyball team will play host to eighth-ranked USC in its season opener at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Gersten Pavilion.

The Lions, picked by West Coast Conference coaches to win the league title, are 0-2 against the Trojans.

Soccer Academy will stage its seventh annual summer camp Monday through Friday at La Marina Park in Manhattan Beach.

The camp is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the cost is $100. Participants receive a T-shirt and soccer ball.

The seventh annual Bud Light Ocean Festival is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at the Manhattan Beach Pier.
