ANAHEIM — For the second consecutive game, the Kennedy defense did not allow a touchdown, as the Irish defeated Magnolia, 31-0, in a nonleague game Thursday night at Western High.
“I have nothing to do with the defense,” Coach Mitch Olson said. “Ted Canfield is in complete charge of it.”
Kennedy gave up only 32 yards rushing and 48 yards passing.
Magnolia came up with two strong defensive plays in the first quarter when George Resmerita recovered an Irish fumble on the Magnolia 15 and later when Josh Parsons stopped Kennedy running back Ryan Lemberger on the two.
Kennedy scored three touchdowns in the second quarter to put the game out of reach.
Chris Clark got Kennedy on the scoreboard with 10:19 left in the first half when he found Wes Morris behind two defenders deep in the end zone from 31 yards out.
Jon Iwazzi scored from the one with 6:20 left in the first half, after Kennedy received excellent field position when the Sentinels had a bad snap on a punt.
Lemberger scored on a two-yard run with 33 seconds left in the first half and Clark connected on his third conversion attempt.
Jason Varga, who had two sacks in the first half, intercepted the first pass of the second half on the Magnolia 10. Clark hit a 22-yard field goal to increase the Kennedy lead to 24-0.
Kennedy used its second string the remainder of the game. Dan Martineau scored from the 10 in the fourth quarter.
