Sunny Hills 3, Cypress 1--Sunny Hills setter Carolyn Sarnecki recorded six kills and 37 assists as the Lancers defeated host Cypress 16-14, 15-3, 15-17, 15-11. Jennifer Coopman added 18 kills for Sunny Hills (3-1). Julie Adams had 13 kills for Cypress (0-5).
In the Sea View League:
Newport Harbor 3, Santa Margarita 0--Misty May had 14 kills and Tina Bowman had six, along with four stuff blocks, to lead Newport Harbor (5-0, 3-0), the top-ranked team in the the Southern Section Division I poll.
In the Sunset League:
Fountain Valley 3, Marina 1--Kristin Moro had 17 kills as visiting Fountain Valley won, 16-14, 15-4, 8-15, 15-7.
Edison 3, Westminster 0--Erin McCown and Nicole Morthorst had seven kills each as host Edison won, 15-2, 15-7, 15-4.
In Garden Grove League water polo:
Los Amigos 19, Santiago 4--Senior Drew Douglas had five goals to lead host Los Amigos to a Garden Grove League victory over Santiago. Douglas has 13 goals in two league games.
In nonleague water polo:
Capistrano Valley 10, Costa Mesa 9 (OT)--Chuck Wierdsma of Capistrano Valley scored the winning goal with less than a minute remaining in overtime. Dan Batten, playing in his first game for the Cougars scored four goals. Capistrano Valley is (4-3).
La Habra 17, Whittier 7--Dan Ploog scored seven goals and Bryan Vaden added four goals for host La Habra (12-7).
Brea-Olinda 13, Fullerton 4--Tad Murphy had three goals in the second quarter and three more in the third for host Brea (8-1). Murphy finished with eight goals in the game.
La Serna 14, Los Alamitos 8--Eric Ploessel, a junior, scored five goals for visiting Los Alamitos.
El Modena 26, Century 5--Mike Anthony and Scott Mitchell each scored eight goals for El Modena (6-1).
