PREP CROSS-COUNTRY / MT. SAC INVITATIONAL : Thousand Oaks and Peninsula Win Titles

The Thousand Oaks High boys’ and Palos Verdes Peninsula girls’ cross-country teams won the team sweepstakes races in the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational on Saturday.

Lancer runners Brandon Del Campo (sixth), Jeff Fischer (10th) and Kevin Marsden (12th) all finished in the top dozen in the boys’ race. Thousand Oaks, the top-ranked team in the state, defeated second-place Santa Ana, 84-101.

Matt Farley of Sacramento Jesuit won in 15 minutes 7 seconds. Brett Strahan of Newhall Hart was second in 15:13.

The Panther girls’ team took advantage of the absence of top-ranked Agoura’s Amy Skieresz, who was recovering from flu. Peninsula, the second-ranked team in the state, edged Huntington Beach Edison, 83-91.

Panther junior Molly Mehlberg finished second in 18:27. She finished behind ninth-grader Julia Stamps of Rincon Valley Junior High, who won in 17:57.

Kay Nekota of Agoura finished third in 18:42. Peninsula’s Jaime Artzmer (ninth) and Mary Blake (13th) helped lead the Panthers.
