COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Golden West Routs El Camino, Wins South Coast Title

Alfred Van Dorp and Corey Delahunt each scored three goals and James Marland had 12 saves as Golden West routed El Camino, 13-5, to win the South Coast Conference championship Saturday at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach.

Golden West, ranked No. 1 in the state, improved to 27-4.

In men’s water polo in the Orange Empire Conference tournament final:

Grossmont 19, Orange Coast 18 (3 OT)--After a hard-fought seven quarters, Rhett Gaier of Grossmont was able to get the ball by goalie Kaj Sturdivant of Orange Coast to give the Griffins the victory.

Ryan Mulholland was top scorer for Orange Coast with nine goals, followed by Daniel Mathot with six. John Guillanotti and Pat Karayan had five goals each for Grossmont.

Sturdivant had 13 saves for Orange Coast. Jeff McAnnally had 12 for Grossmont.

In the tournament semifinals:

Orange Coast 13, Rancho Santiago 10--Mathot had six goals for Orange Coast and Mulholland added three to lead the Pirates. Mike Gonzalez had 17 saves for Rancho Santiago.

In the tournament’s third-place game:

Rancho Santiago 8, San Diego Mesa 5--John Montrella scored three goals, and Mike Gonzalez had 16 saves for Rancho Santiago.
