JUNIOR COLLEGE FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : Glendale Rolls Behind 100-Yard Rushing Trio

Glendale College had three backs rush for 100 yards to lead the Vaqueros to a 17-7 victory over Harbor on Saturday at Glendale High, setting up a showdown next week for the Western State Conference North Division title.

Glendale, which rushed for 406 yards, and Moorpark both are 4-0 in division play.

Pathon Rucker’s 59-yard third-quarter scoring run and Chris Ray’s two-point conversion pass to William Sivley gave the Vaqueros a 10-0 lead. Glendale (5-3-1, 4-3-1 in conference play) opened the scoring in the second quarter when Harbor quarterback Rino Marconi was tackled in the end zone by several players.

Harbor (3-6, 2-6) narrowed the deficit to 10-7 early in the fourth quarter but Glendale’s Ilyan Zilberman, who had 144 yards in 23 carries, scored on a one-yard run with 3:43 to play.

Rucker, who leads the state in rushing, finished with 120 yards in 13 carries. Jerome Casey, hampered by an ankle injury most of the season, had 133 yards in 19 carries.

In other Western State Conference games:

Valley 68, West L.A. 41--Sean Fitzgerald passed for 403 yards and five touchdowns to lead host Valley (7-2, 6-2). Brian Comer caught two of the scoring passes and had 10 receptions for 199 yards.

Fitzgerald completed 28 of 39 passes and also ran for a touchdown in becoming the first passer in Valley history to surpass 2,000 yards in a season.

Damon William of West L.A. (3-5-1, 3-4-1) passed for 280 yards and two touchdowns and ran for two more scores.

Compton 35 Ventura 15--Ventura ended its season winless as Rico Martin completed 13 of 21 passes for 219 yards and four touchdowns for Compton. Darryl Nolan had five receptions for 123 yards and three touchdowns.

Compton (2-7, 1-4) scored twice in the first quarter on a 35-yard pass from Martin to Anthony Lock and a 60-yard fumble return by linebacker Jermel Ford.

Ventura (0-9, 0-8) scored on the last play of the first half on a 35-yard field goal by Andrew Wertz. Damon Hill gained 91 yards in 18 carries and scored touchdowns of 10 and seven yards.

Pierce 22, Santa Monica 20--Doug Sidwell kicked a 31-yard field goal with three seconds to play for the host Brahmas.

Sidwell had hit the left upright on a 22-yard attempt two minutes earlier, but Pierce held Santa Monica (2-6-1, 2-5-1) and got the ball back to give Sidwell a second chance.

Pierce quarterback Davis Delmatoff connected on 15 of 37 passes for 270 yards and two touchdowns, both to David Doyle, who had nine receptions for 223 yards. Pierce (5-4, 5-3) took a 10-7 lead on Doyle’s first touchdown, a screen pass that went for 79 yards, and extended the lead to 17-7 on the second, a another screen pass that went 62 yards.

FOOTHILL CONFERENCE

Antelope Valley 44, Chaffey 21--Nuhammed McDonald rushed for 210 yards in 16 carries and scored four touchdowns for the host Marauders. McDonald scored on runs of 62, 13, 19 and 11 yards as Antelope Valley (6-3, 5-1) rolled up 369 yards rushing and 537 overall.

Idanre Anderson added 101 yards in 10 carries for Antelope Valley and Todd Fink completed 12 of 20 passes for 168 yards.
