OUTLOOK

Settipane takes over the the head coaching position for the Panthers this year. He comes to Orange from El Toro, where he was the junior varsity coach. The Panthers finished fifth in the league last season and might struggle again this year. “I really don’t know what to expect this year,” Settipane said. “We only have three returning players from last year and a lot of new faces.” Settipane’s main concern: It’s a new team with a new coach. Many of the girls play volleyball and Settipane has yet to get the entire team together to see how they’ll jell. “It’s really hard for me,” he said. “Unlike a lot of the coaches, I didn’t get to work with the girls over the summer, and now a lot of them are in volleyball sixth period. I’ll just have to wait and see.” Most of the girls will be playing together for the first time and will have to rely on Puccio, Adam and Brown to lead the team. The Panthers have a promising group of newcomers that ranges in height from 5-5 to 6-0. Strini should see lots of playing time. Last year, the Panthers were forced to start a 5-7 center, so 6-0 Strini is a welcomed sight. The Panthers will greatly miss the leadership of point guard Susie Chu, who was a first-team, all-league selection. Settipane is hoping that the team’s size and speed will help get it off to a quick start.
