OUTLOOK

Although the Colonists didn’t win a game last season, Giroux is very optimistic about her new squad. They return four starters, including all-league honorable mention selection Tu’ua at point guard. Roque returns for her fourth year on varsity, and Durrett is back, after starting as a freshman last year. Lack of height should be a problem for the Colonists, who don’t have a girl over 5-foot-8. “We will make up for our lack of height by being quicker,” Giroux said. The team will also have to deal with lack of experience, with only two seniors on the roster. Despite that inexperience, Giroux believes the Colonists will be improved at every position, having one year under their belts. The team will look toward Tu’ua and Roque for leadership and scoring on the court, and Durrett and Correa will provide rebounding and defense down low. Giroux said goals for the team will include winning a league game. “I do think it’s achievable,” she said. “Many people have told me that we should be able to win two or three league games.” They still may be a year or two away from seriously competing for a playoff berth.
