OUTLOOK
The Roadrunners are trying to build a program, which can be a difficult task in this league, but they finally have a freshman-sophomore team and the opportunity to develop players over four years. They finished seventh last year and lost three starters. But with more height and physical talent, that might be for the best as younger players get an opportunity to improve their skills and gain valuable experience. The Roadrunners will try to compensate for their inexperience with their athletic ability. Conditioning and defense are catchwords in the gym. Anderson said Saddleback showed well this summer; if the Roadrunners can carry that over into the winter and win a few tournament games in December, they might develop enough confidence to make them competitive once league rolls around. Saddleback’s best player, Wiora, averaged 16 points; she was a second-team all-league choice. Diaz and Chu may develop as scorers alongside Wiora. Amasio is a transfer from Century.
