PREP SOCCER ROUNDUP : Power Scores Twice in Villa Park’s 2-1 Victory Over El Modena

Shawn Power headed in a free kick by Jeff Szekeres with 10 minutes left Friday to give host Villa Park a 2-1 victory over El Modena in a Century League boys’ soccer game.

Power also scored his team’s other goal midway through the first half. El Modena tied the score on a Nick Purdom goal with 20 minutes remaining.

Sean Bartko had 10 saves for Villa Park (8-2-5, 1-0).

In other Century League boys’ soccer:

Foothill 1, Orange 1--Junior sweeper Jerry Arguello made a shot from 40 yards 20 minutes into the second half to tie the score for ninth-ranked Orange (7-4-4, 0-0-1). Lars Vreeland had scored 10 minutes earlier for unranked Foothill (4-4-4, 0-0-1).

Santa Ana Valley 3, Canyon 1--Margarito Morales, Adan Mavarette and Rafael Reynosa scored for Santa Ana (10-4-1, 1-0). Sasha Faneff scored for host Canyon (10-4-1, 0-1).

In the Empire League:

Loara 4, Katella 1--Henry Lopez, Arturo Ocegueda, Alfredo Velasco and Jonathan Leproux scored for host Loara (2-6-4, 1-0). Tony Norris had two assists.

Los Alamitos 2, Cypress 2--Bryan Huskey tied the score for Cypress (7-3-3, 0-0-1) with a minute left. Louis Zavala brought Cypress within a goal earlier in the half after Los Alamitos (6-6-3, 0-0-1) had taken a 2-0 halftime lead.

In the Freeway League:

La Habra 2, Fullerton 2--Fullerton’s Julian Garcia scored on breakaway with 10 minutes left to tie 10th-ranked La Habra (7-3-3, 0-0-1).

Sonora 3, Troy 1--Wes Hale scored on a free kick from 40 yards out to break a 1-1 tie in the second half for Sonora (8-2-2, 1-0). Chris Fernandez scored his ninth goal in the first half for the Raiders.

Sunny Hills 5, Buena Park 1--Chris Roselli, who had just returned to the lineup after an injury, scored three goals for Sunny Hills (8-4-2, 1-0) in a league opener.

In the Garden Grove League:

Los Amigos 2, Kennedy 0--Manuel Navarro had a goal and assist to lead Los Amigos (4-6-1, 2-1-1) to its third shutout victory.

Pacifica 2, Bolsa Grande 1--Micah Fitch and Mike Jewett scored, and goalkeeper Robert Duncan saved 12 shots for Pacifica (3-2-1, 2-1-1).

Santiago 4, La Quinta 0--Enrique Argon scored two goals for host Santiago (6-3-1, 4-0). Timo Rodriguez and Danny Contreas also scored. Rick Matlock had 12 saves for La Quinta (2-6, 0-4).

In the Orange League:

Anaheim 3, Magnolia 0--Juan Lopez scored two goals and Antonio Garcia added another for host Anaheim (12-3-2, 1-0). Magnolia is 3-7-1, 0-1.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Laguna Hills 4, Laguna Beach 0--Rob Warren, Jamie Maertz, Cesar Montes and Ryan Boyajian scored for Laguna Hills (5-7-1, 1-0), each of which came in the first half.

Trabuco Hills 7, Century 0--Long Nguyen and Ali Amini each had two goals for Trabuco Hills (7-5-1, 1-0).

In the Sea View League:

Corona del Mar 4, Woodbridge 2--Eric Olsen and Dustin Lee broke a halftime tie with second half goals for seventh-ranked Corona del Mar (9-2-2, 2-0).

Saddleback 3, Newport Harbor 0--Abdis Avila, Juan Arreola and Oswaldo Vizciano each scored a goal for Saddleback (9-2-2, 1-0-1). Goalie Eddie Lopez recorded his fifth shutout for the Roadrunners.

Santa Margarita 8, University 0--Seth George scored his 14th and 15th goals for third-ranked Santa Margarita (8-0-2, 2-2).

In the Sunset League:

Huntington Beach 0, Fountain Valley 0--Chris Schwanke had nine saves for host Huntington Beach (4-5-2, 1-2-1), which managed only three shots.

Marina 3, Edison 0--Adam Bloomfield had two goals and Jose Monroy added a third for Marina (9-3, 4-0).

Santa Ana 4, Westminster 1--Santa Ana (6-4-1, 3-1) moved into a three-way tie for second place with a victory at Westminster.

Servite 2, Ocean View 0--Greg Hernandez came off the bench in the second half and scored both goals for Servite (5-5, 3-1).

In Olympic League girls’ soccer:

Valley Christian 3, Whittier Christian 0--Tiffany Tatum had 16 saves for Whittier Christian.
