PREP SOCCER ROUNDUP : Top-Ranked Santa Ana Valley Fails to Score Again in Tie

Santa Ana Valley, which entered the week as the No. 1-ranked boys’ soccer team in Orange County, failed to score for the second game in a row and tied unranked Foothill, 0-0, in a Century League game Friday at Foothill.

Lanny Rudner had five saves for Foothill (4-5-5, 0-1-2), and Alphonso Limun had five for Santa Ana Valley (11-1-4, 1-1-1). Santa Ana Valley fell Wednesday to El Modena, 1-0, and has managed only eight shots in two games without top scorer Francisco Islas, who has been sidelined while questions of his eligibility are being resolved.

In other Century League games:

Canyon 3, El Modena 1--Steve Maynard scored on a penalty kick in the first half and added a second-half goal for host Canyon (12-4-1, 2-1-0). Clay Kilbarger also scored for the Comanches. Brett Taylor scored for El Modena (7-3-1, 1-1-1).

Orange 1, Villa Park 1--Drew Wetzler scored the tying goal as time expired for visiting Villa Park (9-2-6, 2-0-1). Genar Lopez scored with 10 minutes remaining to give host Orange (7-5-5, 0-1-2) the lead.

In the Empire League:

Cypress 3, Loara 2--Luis Zavala scored on a breakaway with 10 minutes remaining to break a 2-2 tie and give Cypress (9-4-3, 1-1-1) the victory. Joe Meza scored two goals for the Centurions.

Los Alamitos 2, El Dorado 1--Patrick Lee and Matt Freeland scored and Clay Peterson recorded three saves to lead visiting Los Alamitos (7-6-4, 1-0-2). Brian Hurley scored one goal for El Dorado (1-1-1 in league).

In the Freeway League:

Fullerton 2, Troy 0--Aaron Olea and Julian Garcia scored the goals for Fullerton (4-6-5, 1-1-1). Goalkeeper Mike Schumaker recorded his second shutout for the Indians.

La Habra 2, Buena Park 0--Robert Macias scored his seventh goal of the season off a pass from Chris Diaz to lead La Habra (7-3-3, 1-1-1) over host Buena Park.

Sonora 2, Sunny Hills 0--Hugo Nunez scored 10th-ranked Sonora’s (10-2-2, 3-0) first goal on a header after a corner kick 21 minutes into the game.

In the Garden Grove League:

Los Amigos 3, Bolsa Grand 1--Junior Manuel Navarro scored two goals for Los Amigos (5-7-1, 3-2-1). Senior Eric Vargas had the other goal for the Lobos.

Pacifica 2, La Quinta 0--Trevor Stivers and Graig Chow scored the goals for visiting Pacifica (4-2-2, 3-1-2). Robert Duncan, who has 90 saves this season, recorded his third shutout for the Mariners.

Santiago 4, Garden Grove 1--Danny Camtreras, Albert Mendez, Enrique Argon and Ariel Garcia each scored to lead host Santiago (8-3-1, 6-0). Jose Blanco scored one goal for Garden Grove (5-2-2, 3-1-2).

In the Orange League:

Anaheim 4, Valencia 1--Juan Lopez scored twice and Adolfo Calvo and Elmer Rivas scored for visiting Anaheim (13-4-1, 2-1).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Laguna Hills 2, Costa Mesa 1--Ryan Boyajian and Rob Warren scored and Dominic Schuessler recorded eight saves to lead visiting Laguna Hills (7-7-1, 3-0). Carlos Avalos scored for Costa Mesa (5-7-2, 1-1-1).

Trabuco Hills 1, Estancia 0--Aaron Conklin’s goal broke a scoreless tie with six minutes to play and gave the Mustangs (9-5-1, 3-0) the victory at home.

In the Sea View League:

Corona del Mar 4, Tustin 1--Jason Boyce scored three goals and Jed Weinstein added one to lead host Corona del Mar (10-2-2, 4-0-1).

Saddleback 8, University 0--Sam Perla and Carlos Vizcaino each had two goals each for Saddleback which improves to 11-2-3, 3-0-2.

Woodbridge 3, Newport Harbor 0--Ryan Ruggerello had a goal and two assists to lead Woodbridge (6-3-3, 1-2-2) over the visiting Sailors.

Capistrano Valley 1, San Clemente 1--Rob Oveson scored one goal and Mario Garcia recorded one save for San Clemente (6-6-5, 0-0-3).

Jason Felix had four saves for the Cougars (8-6-3, 0-2-1), whose goal was scored off a San Clemente defender.

In the South Coast League:

Mater Dei 5, El Toro 1--Danny Cook, John Gerdis, Mike McCabe, Danny Smith and Brandon Smallwood each scored to lead host Mater Dei (15-0-3, 2-0-1), the third-ranked team in the county. El Toro, the eighth-ranked team in the county, fell to 10-2-4

In the Sunset League:

Fountain Valley 1, Ocean View 1--Brent Futagaki scored the first goal for Fountain Valley and Luan Lai tied the score late in the second half for Ocean View. Goalkeepers Scott Hainlen had five saves for Fountain Valley (2-8-3, 0-4-2) and Mike Andres had seven saves for Ocean View.

Marina 3, Servite 0--Dan Judkins scored the first goal for Marina (10-4, 5-1) 20 minutes in the second half. Jason Benwell and Adam Bloomfield added the others.

Santa Ana 4, Edison 0--Francisco Lagunas scored two goals and Adan Flores and Jaime Santana each added one to lead host Santa Ana (8-4-1, 5-1).

Westminster 4, Huntington Beach 1--Manuel Tapia, Allan Hernandez, Jon Levenshus and Ismael Valera each scored goals to lead host Westminster (5-8, 2-4).
