PREP ROUNDUP : No. 1 Marina Bounces Back for Victory

Marina, which trailed at the end of the half, came back to beat Fountain Valley, 3-1, in a a Sunset League girls’ soccer game Saturday.

The Vikings, ranked first in Orange County, got its first score early in the second half from Jenny Benson on an assist from Gina Giallonardo.

Cathy Campbell and Kristin Palmer scored the other two goals for Marina, which improved to 21-0-1, 8-0-1. Karen Seryneck scored for Fountain Valley.

In other Sunset League games:

Edison 5, Westminster 0--Julie Koudelka scored two goals for second-ranked Edison (19-3-2, 7-1). Erin Bailey, Shanuna Itry and Laura Lamb also scored for the Chargers.

Rosary 0, Huntington Beach 0--Goalies Summer Pratt of Huntington Beach, with five saves, and Rosary’s Anna Villapando, with nine, kept the game scoreless.

In the Laguna Hills Invitational wrestling tournament:

Laguna Hills wins--The Hawks, ranked No. 3 in the county, won the team title with 191 points. No. 4 Irvine was second with 176 1/2.

Irvine’s Justin Meier, who defeated Jeff Greco of Laguna Hills, 13-3, at 130 pounds, was named best wrestler in the lower weight classes. Matt Ziskin of Mira Costa was MVP in the upper weights.

In the Canyon Springs wrestling tournament:

Calvary Chapel rolls--Calvary Chapel ran away from the strong invitational field with 217 points. Host Canyon Springs was second with 153, and El Modena was third with 132.
