HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Buena by 89, and It Could Have Been Worse

Share

Joe Vaughan has seen a lot of blowout games in his 18 years as coach of the Buena High girls’ basketball team. He’s seen his Bulldogs score more than 100 in games during seasons that produced Southern Section championships.

But he doesn’t remember Buena ever winning by 89 points.

The Bulldogs did just that Thursday, beating Oxnard, 98-9, in a Channel League game at Buena.

“That might be a school record for margin of victory, I’m not sure,” Vaughan said. “We pressed for a quarter and a half, then we backed off. It could have been worse, but we weren’t running the break anymore. We were trying not to run it up.”
