Saddleback Ends Successful Hawaiian Trip With Sweep

Saddleback completed a five-game series Sunday in Hawaii by sweeping a nonconference doubleheader from host Hawaii Pacific.

The Gauchos won the first game, 6-3, in seven innings and the second, 12-4. The sweep gave Saddleback a 4-1 record on the trip. All five games were against Hawaii Pacific, an NAIA college. Saddleback’s only loss was 15-13.

Darin Mai pitched 6 1/3 innings of hitless relief in the first game to get the victory for Saddleback. Mai (1-0) had seven strikeouts.

David Biddinger had two hits, including a triple, and drove in two runs for Saddleback, which scored three runs in the second inning and one each in the fourth, sixth and seventh.

In the second game, Saddleback scored four runs in the second inning and added two in the third to open a 6-1 lead.

Pat Antrim had four hits, including two doubles, and Wes Brasher added three singles for Saddleback (4-3). Antrim had three RBIs and Brasher drove in two.

Rancho Santiago and Cerritos were scheduled to play Sunday in the winners’ bracket final of the tournament of which the teams are co-host, but the game was postponed because of wet grounds.

The game will be made up at 2 p.m. today at Cerritos.
