Ventura Takes Top Seeding Into Regional Tournament

The Ventura College men’s basketball team has been seeded No. 1 in the Southern California junior college regional tournament that starts with first-round games Friday and Saturday.

The Pirates (31-2), the Western State Conference North Division champions, will open against Harbor (13-16) Saturday at Ventura.

In Friday games, No. 20 San Diego Mesa (15-13) visits No. 13 College of the Canyons (14-16), and No. 28 Oxnard (12-17) travels to No. 5 L.A. City (25-5).

On Saturday, No. 27 Orange Coast (13-16) plays at No. 6 Moorpark (23-8), No. 14 Antelope Valley (19-11) will play host to No. 19 Pasadena (15-15) and No. 22 Glendale (15-14) travels to No. 11 Southwestern (24-5).

The women’s 16-team regional tournament begins tonight with three area teams participating.

Ventura (25-5), the WSC North Division champion, is seeded No. 4 and will play host to No. 13 Citrus (14-8).

Canyons (18-12), the WSC South Division winner, is seeded 14th and travels to No. 3 Riverside City (25-9). Oxnard (8-20), the WSC North Division runner-up, will visit No. 1 Golden West (29-4).
