OUTLOOK

The Indians’ field was spared of any quake damage though the rest of the campus was hit hard. Ozella says the disruption of attending classes across the street at Queen of Angels may have an impact on some of his athletes. The Indians have 19 players and only six are seniors. Kmet (5-foot-11, 170 pounds) is expected to lead the team on the mound. The right-hander was the Indians’ best pitcher two years ago, but he had an off year in ’93. Perez (5-9, 150), a control pitcher with a strong curve, and Arguiello will also pitch a lot. Glenn is a solid catcher with a good arm and a strong bat. He hit .340 last season and is expected to improve.

OUTLOOK

Eight starters return from last year’s team that tied for fourth in the league, so the Eagles figure to have a good season. Orme will be a key to the team’s success. The 6-foot-4, 203-pound senior is the Eagles’ top pitcher and hitter. He batted .250 last season as the designated hitter and went 3-1 on the mound. When he’s not pitching, Orme will play at first base. Cote (6-1, 175) hit .369, including four home runs and 19 RBIs. Giovannettone (5-8, 165) batted .348 and Lohman (6-1, 170) hit .295. Crecion, also the team’s best reliever, will move from right field to catcher. He led Chaminade with 40 strikeouts in 52 innings last season while hitting .288. Crecion’s brother, Gabe, also will pitch and play first base. The 6-4, 200-pound sophomore was 3-3 on the mound last year.

OUTLOOK

Crespi lost a lot of players from last year’s team that made it to the Division I semifinals, but the Celts’ offense remains intact. Crespi has three of the area’s best hitters in Wright, Farlow and Glendenning. Wright, a left-hander, batted .420 last season with 22 RBIs. Wright, an All-Southern Section pick, also will play in the outfield. Farlow, a left-hander and an all-league selection, hit .375 with 23 RBIs. Glendenning sat out last season because he was academically ineligible, but he is an impact player who is expected to be drafted in June. Clemons didn’t pitch much last season, but is the top hurler. He went 2-0 with a 2.88 ERA two years ago.

OUTLOOK

The Wolverines’ offense will be centered around Schaeffer, who signed a letter of intent to play at Stanford and will probably be drafted in June. Schaeffer hit .428 last season with 21 RBIs, six triples and four home runs. He also scored 21 runs and walked 24 times. Brink says Anderson should hit better than last season when he batted .229 and scored 19 runs. Harvard-Westlake’s strength will be defense and pitching. Garson, a left-hander, had a 2-5 record last year with a 5.20 ERA. He struck out 43 in 59 innings and Brink says he has improved. Isaacson and Kramer also will pitch a lot. Isaacson was promoted from the junior varsity midway through last season and compiled a 1-2 mark with a 5.30 ERA. Kramer made 18 appearances in 23 games.

OUTLOOK

The Knights lost several key players from last year’s team that made it to the semifinals of the Division I playoffs. Igou, a left-hander who signed with the University of San Francisco, is the team’s top returnee. He had a 4-2 record as the Knights’ No. 2 pitcher in ’93 and is being watched by pro scouts. Junior left-hander Andy Lutz and freshman Juan Montez will also pitch a lot. Orlando and Craigwell are the top hitters. Orlando, a second-team all-league pick, led the Knights with a .400 batting average. Craigwell is a powerful hitter and tough defensive player.
