ROUNDUP : El Dorado Gets Past Valencia

Sean Morrison had 30 kills to lead El Dorado past Valencia, 15-13, 6-15, 15-11, 16-18, 15-9, in an Empire League volleyball match Friday night at Valencia High School.

Gary Espley and Clint Ward each had 15 kills for the Golden Hawks (6-2, 1-1).

Valencia (5-4, 1-1) was led by Joe Reynoza, who had 28 kills, and Jason Miele, who added 17.

In other Empire League matches:

Esperanza 3, Cypress 0--Mike Allison had 16 kills and Jason Klems added 11 for host Esperanza (6-2, 2-0), which defeated Cypress, 15-11, 15-6, 15-2.

Los Alamitos 3, Western 0--Tim Tamas and Pete Young each had seven kills and Tim Cockriel added 30 assists to lead Los Alamitos, 15-10, 15-12, 16-14. Los Alamitos is 2-3, 2-0.

In the Sea View League:

Corona del Mar 3, Saddleback 0--Brian Coleman had 10 kills, Clay Burton had eight, Andy Peykoff had 30 assists and Brad Callahan had six blocks and four kills to lead Corona del Mar past Saddleback, 15-2, 15-5, 15-10. Corona del Mar is 7-1, 5-1.

Newport Harbor 3, Santa Margarita 0--Mitch McCoy had 10 kills and Eric Valley had eight kills and 20 assists to lead Newport Harbor in its sweep, 15-12, 15-3, 15-7. The Sailors remain undefeated in league play (7-2, 6-0).

In Century League softball:

El Modena 8, Santa Ana Valley 1--Jenny Foyle had two hits, scored three runs and had two RBIs for host El Modena (6-8, 1-0). Kellie Medigovich added two hits, two runs scored and an RBI.

In nonleague softball:

Mater Dei 7, Sunny Hills 2--Mater Dei scored all of its runs in the first inning. Lisa Tully had two hits, two stolen bases, scored two runs and had two RBIs, all in the first inning for the Monarchs (11-3).

Santa Ana 8, Anaheim 7--Leta Espinosa had three hits and two runs scored, and Melissa Eichenberger scored three runs and got the victory for Santa Ana (1-8).

Villa Park 13, Dana Hills 0 (5, mercy)--Tammy Kincaid struck out seven for Villa Park (9-7). Outfielder Julie Rilie went two for three and had two RBIs and teammate Natalie Martin was two for four with two RBIs and three runs scored.

In Empire League tennis:

Cypress 16 2/3, Katella 4 1/3--Tim Wing swept No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-3, 6-4, and Charles Pham and Bobby Erickson swept No. 3 doubles, 6-1, 6-3, 6-2, to lead Cypress (5-3, 1-1).

Los Alamitos 14 2/3, El Dorado 6 1/3--Randy Mano swept No. 1 singles, 7-6, 6-0, 6-1, and Todd Kaplan swept No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1, 6-0, to lead Los Alamitos (8-2, 2-0).

In the Orange League:

Brea-Olinda 15 2/3, Magnolia 5 1/3--MadhazQ Boddula swept at singles, 6-3, 6-3, 6-1, for visiting Brea-Olinda (9-3, 2-0).

Western 11 1/3, Valencia 9 2/3--Dean Ras and Danh Dao swept No. 1 doubles, 6-0, 7-5, 6-2, and Tan Do and Phuoc Dang swept No. 2 doubles, 6-4, 7-5, 6-1, to lead Western (5-5, 2-0).

In the Sea View League:

Corona del Mar 17, Saddleback 4--Senior Jed Weinstein remained undefeated at 15-0 in singles this season by sweeping his sets, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, for Corona del Mar. Sophomore Raj Shukla also swept, 6-0, 6-2, 6-0, for the Sea Kings (8-2, 5-1).

Santa Margarita 10 2/3, Newport Harbor 10 1/3--Down 1-5, Francisco Sada rallied to win, 7-6, at No. 2 singles for Santa Margarita. The team of Matt Moore and Andy Tsu won two of its three sets, 6-7, 6-1, 6-3, for the Eagles (6-6, 4-3).
