Share

Despite competing without one of its key swimmers, Villa Park managed to defeat Santa Margarita, 99-71, in a nonleague boys’ swim meet Friday at Villa Park.

Although the Spartans (6-0) were without Matt Cornue, strong efforts from senior Brendan Herlihy, who won the 200 freestyle (1:53.09) and 500 freestyle (5:12.33) and two relay victories were instrumental in winning.

For Santa Margarita (4-2), which tied Villa Park in the 200 medley relay in 1:45.23, freshman Philippe Demers gave the Spartans headaches throughout the meet, winning the 100 freestyle (49.53) and backstroke (55.2). Demers also swam a fast 21.6 in anchoring the 200 freestyle relay, which Santa Margarita lost by a hundredth of a second.
