COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Carlson Leads OCC Women to Diving Title

Heidi Carlson placed first in the three-meter diving and second in the one-meter competition to lead the Orange Coast women’s diving team to the championship of the Saddleback Diving Pentathlon Saturday at Saddleback.
Carlson finished with an overall score of 391.00, well ahead of second-place Windy Kraynik of San Diego Mesa, who finished with 371.70. OCC’s Tina Edwards was third at 370.90. The Pirates finished with 761.90 points.
Mesa won the men’s title with 618.70 points and was led by Troy Velasco, the overall champion. Bill Tovar of OCC was fourth in the three-meter competition, with a score of 146.45.
In nonconference men’s track and field:
Rancho Santiago 73, Golden West 56, San Diego Mesa 29--Francisco Vasquez won the 1,500 (4:11.7) and 5,000 (15:48.6), Ernie Wilson won the 100 (11.2) and 200 (21.9) and Ty Wynn won the javelin (164-10) to help lead Rancho Santiago (7-1). Golden West is 4-3.
