YOUTH BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Westoaks Posts 6-0 Shutout at AAU’s Junior Olympics

The Westoaks Senators defeated the Washington Arsenal, 6-0, Thursday behind the complete-game pitching of Bill Treese in the AAU Junior Olympics 16-year-old division at Cocoa Beach, Fla.

Westoaks, composed of players from Thousand Oaks and Westlake Highs, is 3-3 in the 40-team tournament and concludes play today with a doubleheader.

Westoaks could finish fifth in the tournament with a sweep.

Westoaks has defeated the Virginia Mudcats (1-1) and the Cincinnati Pirates (12-2), and lost to the Cincinnati Hurricanes (6-4), the Knoxville Smokeys (2-1) and Southeast Wisconsin (5-3).

Right-hander Tim Baron is 2-0 and left-hander Micah Weathers has not allowed an earned run for Westoaks. Both pitchers are from Thousand Oaks High. Treese is from Westlake High.

Hitting leaders are Ryan Holmes (.588 batting average), Ryan Lane (.474), Baron (.385) and Steve Udell (six runs batted in).

The Senators participated in opening ceremonies at Space Center Stadium on Wednesday along with 10,000 other participants of the Junior Olympics.

Westoaks qualified for the Junior Olympics by winning a regional tournament in February.

Northridge 23, Vista National 6--The Northridge Little League 12-year-old all-star team will advance to the Southern California Division final Saturday at 7 p.m. after crushing Vista behind home runs by Nathaniel Dunlap, Matt Fisher, Jonathan Higashi and Peter Tuber. Fisher was five for five with six RBIs. Tuber’s home run was a grand slam and he has hit homers in three straight games.
